Channels, threads and direct messages
When to use each kind of conversation, and how to keep them tidy.
Channels
Public channels are open to anyone in the company. Private channels are visible only to their members. Use sub-channels to split a large topic — for example #clients with a sub-channel per client.
Channel admins can edit the name, description, guidelines and photo, manage members and archive the channel when it's no longer needed.
Threads
Reply in a thread when a message needs a detailed back-and-forth. The channel stays readable and the people involved get notified about replies.
Direct and group messages
Message one person, or start a group conversation with several people, from New message.
Mentions, reactions and pins
- Type
@to mention someone. Mentions appear in their Activity. - React with emoji to acknowledge without adding noise.
- Pin messages the whole channel should be able to find, and save messages you want to come back to.
Editing and deleting
You can edit or delete your own messages for a short time after sending. Edited messages are marked as edited.
Email support@thebasikcompany.com and we'll get back to you.
